The Innoptus Solar Team is a Belgian student engineering team developing cutting-edge solar race cars. Each year, a new team builds and optimizes a vehicle for international competition. In 2025, they took on the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, a 3,021 km journey across the Australian outback. With nine support vehicles handling strategy, telemetry and logistics, reliable connectivity was critical. To stay connected throughout the race, the team partnereed with Frontier EU and deployed a Peplink solution.
Large parts of the Australian outback have no mobile network coverage, making reliable connectivity extremely difficult. The Innoptus Solar Team needed constant internet access to monitor the car and make strategic decisions throughout the race.
At the heart of their operations is a support vehicle known as “The Brains”. This vehicle houses the strategy team, which continuously analyses incoming telemetry from the solar car alongside weather forecasts and other data to determine optimal speed and energy usage.
Without reliable connectivity, these calculations and decisions would be severely limited.
In addition to data connectivity, the team needed reliable communication between convoy vehicles. During the race, vehicles can be spread up to 100 km apart, making traditional communication systems impractical.

To meet these requirements, Frontier EU designed a connectivity setup combining Peplink routers with satellite connectivity.

Combined with Starlink Mini, the solution enabled reliable satellite connectivity even in the most remote areas of the Australian outback.
This deployment allowed all convoy vehicles to remain connected while on the more, ensuring seamless communication and continuous data access throughout the race.

Across the entire convoy, the network maintained continuous connectivity without interruptions, allowing the strategy team to across the data they needed at all times.
With reliable connectivity supporting their operations, the Innoptus Solar Team successfully completed the race and achieve 3rd place in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025.
